Virginia Wine

by Clarice
(Fredericksburg, VA, USA)

Back in March 2007, the actor Nicolas Cage was filming “National Treasure: Book Of Secrets” in Washington D.C. He is a wine connoisseur so I wanted to give him a bottle from a local winery.

I recently moved to the area from Kansas and was surprised how many wineries there are in Virginia. I decided to go to Hartwood Winery in Fredericksburg, VA. to look for the right wine. I’m fairly new to wine appreciation so this was my first visit to a winery. The short drive past the grapevines was breathtakingly beautiful. I walked in to a cozy room surrounded by bottles of wine and wood furnishings. I sampled a few wines before choosing a 2005 Chardonnay. Their “Rappahannock Rose” was very memorable also. It’s a superb dry wine with hints of cherry and citrus. I had a wonderful time at Hartwood Winery and will certainly visit again!

A few days later, I gave the bottle of wine to Mr. Cage. He told me he didn’t know they made wine in Virginia. He really appreciated the wine and hugged me.
